The members of the quartet are all active London freelance musicians and regularly play for orchestras including the English Chamber Orchestra, London Philharmonic, Philharmonia, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Soloists of Covent Garden, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, English National Opera, Camerata of London and City of London Sinfonia.
Julia Burkert, violin
Julia studied in Canada under Ann Elliott-Goldschmid, and at the Royal Scottish Academy under Peter Lissauer, winning several prizes and scholarships along the way. Afer her studies, she was employed with her Canadian String quartet as resident quartet on Princess cruises, before she moved to London to start a busy freelance career. Here, She has played with most of the big London symphony orchestras, opera companies, and chamber orchestras as well as in the West End. She regularly appears with the English Chamber Orchestra, London Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra of St Johns, London Concert Orchestra, as well as playing with the London Philharmonic, Philharmonia, Royal Philharmonic, English National Opera, Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, English National Ballet, Glyndebourne Opera, Grange Park Opera to name just a few. She also enjoys veering off the classical repertoire, appearing in West End shows, as well as sessions, tours and TV appearances with stars such as George Michael and Dame Shirley Bassey.
Through connections to the medical profession, she appears regularly as soloist and leader of the Bavarian, German and World Doctors Orchestras. She also leads the Epsom Symphony Orchestra, and has repeatedly led the Guildford, Cambridge, Sevenoaks Symphony Orchestras, Camerata of London, Collegia Musica Chiemgau and many more.
Alice Butcher, violin
Alice is a highly experienced freelance violinist who works with orchestras such as The National Symphony Orchestra, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and The RTE National Symphony Orchestra, as well as the opera orchestras of Carl Rosa, Grange Park and Pimlico Opera. Her chamber music has gained awards from The Emanuel Hurwitz Chamber Music Trust and Dartington International Summer School, and has taken her to the Purcell Room, St. James’ Piccadilly and Burgh House.
Alice also enjoys the lighter side of music, has performed in the shows Wicked, Miss Saigon and Sinatra, and toured the world with Abba: The Show. She has worked with many singer-songwriters and pop artists, including Kanye West and Goldfrapp. She has performed in some of the worlds most prestigious venues, including The Royal Albert Hall, Wembley Stadium, the O2 World Arena Berlin and at Buckingham Palace.
Chris Brody, viola
Born in Pittsburgh, PA, Chris obtained a BA in Music from Brandeis University in Waltham, MA. He spent a post-graduate year at the Schaffhausen Konservatorium, Switzerland before coming to London to further his studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. His teachers have included Herbert Greenberg, Andras von Toszeghi and Simon Rowland-Jones.
An experienced freelance orchestral musician, Chris has worked as principal and tutti viola in dozens of orchestras in the UK, Europe and Asia. He has performed internationally as a soloist and chamber musician, with a wide variety of musical partners. He is chairman of Camerata of London, a chamber orchestra and group of flexible ensembles, and is also a keen choral singer.
Sarah Westley, cello
Since being awarded the title of BBC Young Musician of Hereford and Worcester, Sarah has enjoyed a busy international career as a freelance orchestral, chamber and solo cellist. Her orchestral experience is extensive, including touring as principal cello with The Soloists of The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and Brandenburg Sinfonia, and working with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and English National Opera. As a chamber musician, Sarah has travelled the world on SAGA Cruises, and as soloist has performed several concertos nationwide.
As well as her classical music experience, she has recorded, toured and performed live with Tinie Tempah, Elton John, Kylie Minogue, Michael Ball, Andrea Bocelli, MIKA, Jeff Beck and Katy Mellua, and has performed in West End shows as a principal and solo cellist. She is also an active baroque cellist and a trained workshop specialist with experience in classical improvisation and producing and performing in music outreach projects around the South East.
Sarah completed her degree at Trinity College of Music, studying with Joely Koos and Tim Gill, and her Postgraduate Diploma and teaching Licentiate at Royal Academy of Music, where she studied with Josephine Knight and the baroque cello under Jennifer Ward Clark.
